Default DOD delete and Cam swap on LY5 (lots of pics : ) )

Hi there fellow modders, been on a short haitus from the site but been busy part gathering and doing a lot of reading/research on the dod/cam swap subject and am now ready to pick up a wrench and start making that thing click haha.

For background info refer to my sig..

I will be taking lots of pics so hopefully this might help someone later on down the road..

So here goes my part list, im doing DOD/cam at the same time so parts are combined:
Comp Cams XER273HR

Comp Cams Push Rods - 7955-16
Non-DOD Lifters - I chose Comp 850-16s

Lunati Beehive Springs 74818-16

Comp Cams Trunion Upgrade Kit
4.8 Valley Cover Part#12598832

Adjustable LS2 Timing Set 3158KT (this is overdoing it for DOD delete, but thought it would go nice with the cam swap since i needed to go to 3-bolt sprocket anyways)

LS2 Front Cover Part#12600326

Non dod lifter guides Part#12595365

LS2 Dampner (wedge style) Part#12588670
Front Cover Gasket Part#12633904
Timing Cover Seal Part#12585673
Water Pump Gaskets x2 Part #12630223
Oil Pump O-Ring (orange) Part#12584922

GM 5.3 Head Gaskets Part#12589226

Valley Cover Gaskets Part#12637683

ARP head Bolts 134-3610

Melling HV/HP 10296

Happy Fathers Day to me!!!

It will all be going into this...

My reason for going slightly larger that the norm on the cam is I wont be towing with the truck anymore and id like to fully utilize the 3k stall. Im hoping to get all this installed within the next couple weeks and custom tuned by NicD shortly after. I will update with install pics and dyno numbers as i get around to them and fingers crossed i actually make it out the track for real world numbers

Comments or questions are more than welcomed..

Also, my trucks been BB tuned and dod/afm turned off. Idle was bumped up a bit, I believe to 675rpms. I'm assuming that I should have no problem firing it up and driving around couple weeks while I get an opening for my custom tune?

What's the proper "break-in" after cam swap, if any? I've read about heat cycling the springs a few times to prevent them getting brittle and snapping later on. Anything else?

I'm sure it'll fire up and run, but not great. I wouldnt run it for a couple weeks on a stock tune, it likely will not run right at all and you'll get some funny driveablitly issue with having a bigger cam.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to ask Justin exactly how much he tuned for a cam. When he did my tune(in person) I told him I'd be camming in near future so he said he'd make some adjustments so I'd atleast be able to drive till I got a proper tune for cam. I know it's gonna be hard to keep the foot past half way but don't wanna break something lol.

Seems I have all gaskets I need, except intake manifold gaskets. Are those necessary to replace for new or reuse originals?

Nice selection of parts.
Why did you choose that pump? Just curious, I've read about stock and modded LS6 pumps doing well to.

Yea ive heard the same but I'm at almost 160k so I wanna refresh as much as I can in there while it's open.

I've heard or drilling holes on lifter guides to let oil drain faster back the pan to avoid running it dry. Anybody done this? Or point me in right direction regarding this?

One thing I didn't see was an arp thread chaser. Do you have one of those?
