Default Did I mess up?

I bought a set of 706 heads yesterday for my 5.3. They have been ported, polished, and shaved .060 (yes thats 60 thousandths).

Did I mess up and is this too much milling? or is there a way I can compensate with head gaskets or something?

Its hard to say because it depends on your cam profile greatly. Best way to tell is to install the head and check piston to valve clearance.

My plan is to put a cam in while doing the heads. any suggestions?

Put the cam in, install 1 of the heads with a factory gasket and a couple of the bolts (dont need all of them). Check your PTV clearance. If its not enough or you have contact you can either have custom gaskets made (about $300 for a pair), flycut your pistons, or get different heads.

Another option would be to have a custom cam ground specifically for those heads. It usually doesn't cost much more if any for a custom grind than an off-the-shelf grind.

Another issue I have heard of people having when milling heads past 0.040" is getting the intake bolts to line up and the intake gaskets to seal completely.

A custom grind wouldn't be bad if i knew what numbers to look at and select how I want it done.
