i read somewhere that the 4.8 is both a 294 and 296, according to GM. If you have a certain letter in your VIN, its a 294, and if you have another letter, its a 296. I'll try to find that link; hopefully that'll make more sense.

x61 is what I do to get a ball park figure.

350/61=5.7
325/61=5.3
293/61=4.8

Having a 3.779 bore and a 3.270 stroke, I came up with 293.4ci.

not to sound rude but this isnt entirely correct...its partially correct...of course thats why you said ball park right? so i dont mean to sound rude if inquiring minds want to know

there are 2 different 5.3's 99-02 are 323 CI and 03-06 are 325 CI
which is basically the difference between the L33 and LM7...2 Cubic Inches
but you can still choose between the L33 and LM7 today so that is the difference between the 2...but as far as 5.3s go the LM7 became the dominant engine in 2003 and the L33 is known for its lesser Horsepower

Also w/ the 5.7 94 and up is actually 355 CI also known as the LT1...i believe the LS1 also is 2 cubic inches bigger but im not entirely sure about that...i believe its the same engine block just upgraded cam, intake manifold and heads

as far as 4.8s go i believe the same goes...there is a 292 version and a 294 version but the smaller of the 2 is not available anymore...just like the 5.3 it had the smaller version when the conception of the NBS came through in 99 but unlike its older brother it grew 2 cubic inches and thats it...no 2 CI smaller version available...not that anyone would want it but hey

this is just what ive gathered from GM...im not sure if its entirely accurate but im pretty sure most of it is...same here basic ballpark...with a little more accuracy
