Default Carbed 6.0 combo ??

I have a 01 LQ4 6.0 with 81,000 miles i just picked up...What all would you guys check, replace? I'm going with a edelbrock victor jr intake, 750 dp holley, msd controller, 1" 3/4 headers, 4000 stahl, 4.10's and either a MS3 or MS4? Which cam would you run of the two? I'm going with the cam kit texas speed has, springs, pushrods, etc...New timing chain I know for sure, but what else? Oil pump? Would you have the heads milled for increased compression? I have a nx express plate kit for this motor as well...Motor is going in a 78 malibu. Any suggestions welcome, thank you....

Damn, I am super envious over your future project. My first car was an '80 Malibu. Had built a 355 for it but lost interest at that young of an age. I dont know if you have to run a different size cam because you are going carbed? That motor in that car could run a pretty healthy sized cam with the right converter and gears. Might have to go custom ground.

Those heads on that block flow pretty well. I would take them off and give them a little polish in the intake and exhuast ports. You probley have some oil build up on them. I would but them about .030 of an inch and then put a thinner head gasket to shoot up you compression a little.

What advantages do you have going with a carb?

easier tuning... for some.... ie laptop, software, learning curve... he has a carb, need an intake and box.... the truck brackets clear the carb over a car intake..

check out the TR220 from Thunder Racing (thunderracing.com), a friend of mine has that cam in his LQ4 and it's a nice set up.

just a note for the carb set, don't do it unless you use a cam that will back that kind of flow. ms3 or 4 should do quite well.
