Rust can act as an abrasive agent between moving parts. If you look at the back of sandpaper you will see things like "dioxide" and "oxide" printed on them, technical terms for rust. Not saying this is what happened to yours but it can lead to premature failure if there is enough of it in there.

Yeah, I think I will just let it blow. I can get a lq9 cheap, but I cant run as much boost because of the compression. I dont know maybe I will just get the lq9. What is the bigest gasket I could use to lower the compression from 10:1. Will the bigger gasket be prone to gasket failure? How low could I go?

Look at the Titan ICS (SCE). I'm thinking you can get a prety thick gasket. I wouldn't worry about it. Just run the 5.3 but with the thoughts of getting ready to build your next engine before it blows.
