Cam decision
#1
I am looking for a little advice on a cam swap.
2007 Chevy Silverado 5.3 Blackbear Tune, JBA Headers, CAI, Exhaust, Ported TB w/spacer, 1.85 Rockers.
I am looking at 2 cams.
Lunati 60510 212 218 .531 .531 113 LSA 262 268
Thunder Racing TR220 220 220 .551 .551 112 LSA
I have 1.8 rockers that might work well with the Lunati cam. Using them with the TR cam is not recommended, plus it will be the max lift of the springs. I would like some input on what others have done and how it worked out for you.

The TR220's ramp rate is why Thunder Racing advises not using 1.8 rockers with it. That Lunati cam has the same ramp rate of 50 that the TR220-112 has, so it would not be advisable to use the 1.8 rockers with it either.

Have you considered the old stand-by 212/218 low lift cam from Comp? With the 1.8 rockers, you'd be at .553"/.560" lift and still keep great street manners and torque!
Let me know if I can help!

I do not think there would be any issues with valve float as long as you use a nice spring. They are correct when they say the aftermarket rockers are heavier (especially over the tip), but no more aggressive than those lobes are, you should be just fine with a PAC 1218!

not to rain on th OPs thread, but what is the benefit of using the 1.8 rockers vs stock with the higher lift 212/218? I suppose a minimal amount of more lift would be added with the 1.8s and low lift but for the average person, would it be worth spending the $ for the low lift cam AND the rockers vs just the high lift cam?
Thanks

^^He stated he already has the 1.8's, so the low lift is the way to be. But yes, if he didn't already have them, the high lift version of the cam would be the better way to go with the stock rocker (or modified trunions in the stockers).
