If u go with that 228 and a 3200 stall I say go to 4:10s to help your low end. Well see how my tr224, 3000, and 4:10 s work out by next weekend. Just waiting for the pushrods and ls2 timing chain to come on.

I also believe the 228 is little too big.... I would go with what I used to have in my 5.3 since its a proven combo.... 220/220 cam, 3200-3400 stall, and 4.10's will definately help as well....

tsp has a good cam, 220/220 .581/.581 112LSA, I believe you can get the whole package @ TSP for $600, cam/springs/pushrods....

N/A = naturally aspirated, not supercharged, not turbocharged, not nitrous injected, all motor

a 228-duration cam in a 5.3 is on the large side, and wont show much of an increase in power until about 3200rpm+ and needs a stall for about that much or more

the TR224 is the biggest I would go on a 5.3, its a proven cam on reg cabs but the ext. cab are heavier.... I believe the tr224 has like a .56x lift, tsp has a 224 cam on a .581 lift as well...

the 224 will sound more choppy too...

for the TR224 you need,

comp 918 valve springs or equivalent or better
hardened pushrods (reccommended, not mandatory)
LS2 timing set(recommended, not mandatory)
ported LS6 oil pump(recommended, not mandatory)
gaskets
tune

probably will need larger fuel injectors if you have the other boltons.

you will need a 3,000rpm stall minumum IMO
id go ahead and get a built trans too, you would be on borrowed time

My vote is for the 3200-3400 stall with the TSP 220/220. If you dont think you have enough low end then go with 4.10's or 4.30 gears.
