Default Broken 5/16 dowel in block

Hey guys just chiming in if any one could help me out in this very desperate situation I have. Here it goes... I picked up a crashed suburban for my 03 scsb v6 to v8 swap. Since my v6 is running fine I had no reall rush to do the swap so I bought a small cam to get a bit of that choppiness we all love. Went about it the standard procedure to do the cam swap, when I happenes I trim over a cord I had laying around and break the damn dowels about 1/4 inside the block. Any ideas on how the hell I can get it out I all ready tried the following needle nose pliers and a screw through the center to pull it out with no luck.

What dowels did you break? The locating dowels on the rear of the block?

sounds like he is talking about the dowel rods people use to hold up the lifters during cam swap...maybe try compressed air or only other thing I can think of would be get the engine on a hoist and have someone help you tilt the block until they fall out...worst case you will just have to pull the heads

I'll try that when I get home for sure I was trying to avoid pulling the head . If I pull off the rear main cover do you think I could access it through there?

I think you'd be a lot happier pulling the heads.
Lot easier and im sure it wouldnt hurt to get some nice new head gaskets.

No.

Metal or wood dowels?

You *might* be able to take the intake/valley cover off and use a pick to move it out some.

Worse case, pull the heads. Pulling the heads on a truck isn't nearly as hard as people think. When I dropped a lifter during a cam swap, I had the passenger side head off in about 30 min. It took me longer to prep the block/head for new gaskets.

It looks like you just set a precedent for not using wood dowels.

Yea most definitely. I wonder if I could just burn it out using a flexible torch of some kind . But more then likely I'll just pull the heads order new gaskets and head bolts

LOL.

As long as one doesn't break one they work great....but then there is that .005%.
