maybe some scotchbrite, nothing that will take any material off.
definitely need to chase the threads and blow out the bolt holes
clean up the pistons

an ice scraper for the big stuff, follow it with a razor blade and finish it up with a scotch brite pad soaked with brake cleaner.

blow out the threads with an air hose and chase it with a bolt with 2 sides of the threads ground flat.

???????
if you can see the pistons, there are no spark plugs. you spark plugs thread into the heads. it will take a little muscle but the rotating assembly will turn with the crank bolt. just make sure and go clockwise. oh and cleaning the pistons as good as grippy did is kinda pointless. it makes for an awesome pic but within 5oo miles it will be back black again. just pour some seafoam on the piston and clean it up the best you can with a towel. thats good enough.
