How much daily driving will this truck see?

If this is a weekend warrior and use during nice summer weather to get Dairy Queen with the wife, try to shoot for 10.5+:1 compression and hunt for a cam close to the XER273 from Comp Cams. Keep in mind, many of those AFR and TFS heads have 65-66cc chambers so plan to mill a bit off of them to bring an LQ4 up from 9.4:1. Aim for 60-62cc chambers when all is said and done so the big camshaft doesn't feel so soggy down low. 400rwhp may be within reach if you pick the right heads.

The LQ9 already has flat top pistons. You'll have to mill or change the heads to bring the compression up.

Any reasons behind the XER281?

Focus on the weight difference between your build and what is in bold.

If I could do it all over again I would get the LQ4 instead of the LQ9. Then put the TSP stage 2.5 5.3s on the LQ4 with something like a 224 or 228 cam. I would guarantee that would get your 400rwhp.
