Probably a 1000 miles on the filter. I've been told that there really isn't that much metal in my filter. To me, there is enough to make me want to pull it and tear it down but I've never spun a bearing before so I'm not sure. I have noticed about a 10psi loss in pressure. I do get a ticking/knocking sound that almost sounds like an exhaust leak when the engine is under light load. Any time I accelerate the sound is present. I can't hear it when i give it more that half throttle but that just be because my exhaust is so loud. I can't hear the knocking at idle either.

Thanks for posting those pics Atomic

That loss in pressure isnt a good sign... The first pic is from my 402 and 2 mains were trashed but it never made a sound or any sign anything was wrong besides low oil pressure...

Oakley, tear it down. I can tell from your picture that you have problems.

this is the same thing the is going on in my 4.8 motor looks identical and I also have the same noise you explained and 10 oil pressure loss. I decided not to tear it apart and am currently putting a ly6 together but will have the 4.8 out in about a month and will let you know what I find -joe

Sorry I guess I don't understand what you mean

No doubt I'm going to tear it down. I have it parked and its ready to pull. My damn family keep having me work on there cars so I haven't had a chance to start. I used plastigauge when I built the short block . Never again. I have a bore gauge and micrometer ordered. Should be a fun build and will make a whole lot more power than it did before. Thanks boys!

I've never had an oil filter appart like that to see what it looks like. My oil pressure is fine, but it couldnt hurt to check it out. All these horror stories have me nervous.
