Check those rod and main clearances, they seem scary loose!

After building a bunch of engines and having my Craftsman torque wrench fail several times and friends having similar experience, I bought a 3/8" and 1/2" Snap-On Torque wrenches, click type. That was in 1992. I have built 20+ engines since without a single issue. Not sure what they do now, but back then Sears would warranty a failed wrench for 6 months. Not helpful when it fails at 9:30 Saturday night when you are at the track trying to get an engine put together for the National Championship Runoffs Sunday at lunch! Thanks for a friends Snap-On to get it put together!

yeah they are on the loose side but ls engines have a really nice oiling setup. besides boost is kinda hard on bearings so most guys go a lil looser on the clearance. research it!!

I decided to go 24 and 26 for the rings. On another note I hate spirolox! My first time dealing with them...took me about 30 Mins to get one in. Also got a cut/raw finger in the process. After the first one I got 7 installed in about 15 mins!

Not to beat a dead horse, but the books say to use 0.0022-0.0030 bearing clearance. This is 2.2 to 3 thousanths, not 25 to thirty. 25 to 30 would clank when you picked up the crank snout and without a 500 gpm oil pump, would have zero oil pressure.

well I just finished checking main bearing clearance (plasti gauge) and I believe I'm right where I need to be! The crushed piece just about lines up with the .002 inch mark and is slightly bigger than the .003 inch ill post a pic tomorrow

I checked my rod bearing clearance today and it read .015 " I was told .025" was ideal. So now what would I do to achieve that if I'm getting .015" with standard size bearings? Or is .015 plasti Gauge reading acceptable? I'm hoping to make atleast 1000 hp thru a turbo
