Umm, how did that LQ4 come from an Escalade? It was either from a 2500 truck or it's an LQ9. Does it still have the flex plate? 6 hole flex plate would most likely be from a 2500 mated to a 4L80 unless it'd was from a Hummer. Otherwise it would be 3 hole flexplate. The difference was compression ratio.

Of course, if you are going to build it, really doesn't matter much. The late Gen III had the beefier rods and all LQ9s had them from the beginning, according to the Internet.

I'll subscribe. I'm putting together a similar engine. I was actually looking at lifters a few days ago on RockAuto.🫣 So what lifters would you guys recommended then?

Not sure, that's what I get for buying on fb marketplace. The pistons indicate lq4 I believe?

Well at a minimum it needs a fresh hone job but this gives me a good excuse to buy a dial bore Guage and mic set. Thinking it will probably want bored based on how glossy and discolored the jugs are.

Yeah, dished pistons = LQ4, although that flexplate looks like the "dished" type that came on the 4L60e? I can't really tell. Does the flexplate have 3 holes?

Yeah, check the bore with a micrometer and dial bore guage. It may be okay with just a DIY ball hone. I believe up to 4.0017 is considered okay, hopefully it's not that out-of-spec.

@strutaeng LQ9s followed the same path for the rods. 04 is when the good rods came out. Johnson I think for lifters although I’m interested in the new GM ones that come in the crate engines. I’m a fancy bitch though so my suggestion is link bars lol

@TorqueHD People were boosting in the early 00s with SBE, hell people do it no, just don’t crank it way the hell up. BUT I think you’d be fine with some used Gen IV rods and whatever piston helps achieve your desired CR. Used rods are like $150? Go ahead and do the bottom end if you’d like it would not be cost prohibitive for the blower imo. Probably looking at a grand or two to reseal and get a stronger bottom end.

Got the harmonic balancer bolt out, just took me awhile to figure our how to keep the crank from rotating.

Tried using a 3 jaw puller to pull the harm balancer, but the tool doesn't fit so I mangled the chamfer on the crank a little so I tried using a socket to center it... the socket and 3 jaw have become one... need to buy a more professional tool.

One other thing... I have always liked strokers and have always wanted to build one. Was planning on going that route, until I read on this forum that these motors aren't well suited for stroker cranks if you want to daily drive them. Because the piston rocking at BDC wears out the cyl wall prematurely, and it's evidently significant. I read on some site somewhere that a good stroker setup will mitigate this by having tapered piston skirts but I can't find any further info on this.

Is that a thing or do stroker LS's have to wear out prematurely? I know the LS7 is basically a stock stroker but I'm not sure what the difference is.

How have you got it set up? I assume it's a stroked 5.7? SBC or LS platform?

You can go to a 3.9" stroke crank to help with the rock at BDC

I wondered about a shorter stroke but I've only seen stock or 4".
I wish the Vortec 8100 was an LS platform, I'd love to run one of those. 4.25" bore, 4.37" stroke! I just know the aftermarket support, and even factory replacement parts, are lacking severely. And unfortunately nothing LS fits them.
