Default 862 heads to 243

Would it be worht swapping to 243 heads from 862s on a 5.3 i will have them milled and put them on when i do my cam swap. Cam will be a 228R i will already be pulling heads since i am replacing lifters.

Yes it will be worth it in my opinion. Assuming you get them decently cheap. The 243 casting flows a good deal more air.

How much could I mill the heads without messing with the intake or running into piston to valve clearance?

Fully depends on what cam you're running (sorry, haven't seen a CamPro graph of that 228R). But seriously, most recommend milling stock heads no more than .030". If you want to modify static compression more than that, you're better off getting the correct piston that gets you to the static compression you want.

Not looking for anything crazy compression wise just figured i would mill them while i could. I got a good deal on the cam and was just putting it in till my motor is built so not interested in swapping pistons or fly cutting them this is just a budget type deal.

I would mill them .030" with a .042 gasket and call it a day. It will definitely be worth your money.
