i think they were the electronic Rochester q-jet with a tps and some solenoids that were a pita to maintenance and upgrade, oh and would you like an engine with those vacuum lines?

Do the following if the truck is factory stock.

Remove air cleaner, remove carb, remove smog, remove intake. Gently place the following in a trash can.

Go on craigslist, purchase a used Edelbrock performer RPM, Edelbrock 600cfm carb, and a generic air cleaner.

Install,

Enjoy.

Most of the smog stuff was taken off when I bought mine, if it wasn't, I took it off. I am running an open air intake on a re-manufactured Q-jet. Almost five years since I bought my truck, and it's running about as good, if not better. However, I do agree, bolt on an Edelbrock intake and carb. and enjoy.

Should be same for GMC... http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/history.htm
