He didn't say, but he said it required quite a bit to get it to balance.
I learned my lesson about not balancing motors I rebuild. I did a 4.3 for a S-10 a couple years ago. I though I'd save some money and not balance it since I was just putting .030 pistons in the stock motor. Got the motor done and in and it ran good, but it vibrates pretty good from about 3000 on up. Every other motor I have built I have balanced and they ran smooth as silk. DEFIANTLY worth it in my opinion.

yep the 5.3 crank would need to be ballanced to acomodate the new oversized pistons.
i was planing on doing the same awhile back but it would end up costing more money to build than to pick up an LQ4 at the salvage yard.

I would DEFINITELY have to disagree with this. I even used an actual 5.7 crank and put Maule pistons (3.898) with Scat I beams and had it balanced. The machinist said he had to take a lot weight off the counter weights. The new pistons and rods where MUCH lighter then the stock ones.
Balance is very important in a motor that's going to turn 6000+
I'd have Maule Flat top pistons, 3.898, (-4cc valve relives), Scat I beams rods and 317 72cc heads. That puts the compression at a nice 9.25 to 1. NA and Boost friendly Oh and I used GM 6l MLS head gaskets.

Many thanks. I wonder it will be ok to run for na in a while until money come up more for turbo. I not have to worry about change piston again. Hey I wonder where Maule Flat top pistons from? I check www.sdparts.com there not have Maule? I wasnt sure if you spell right word? You mean Mahle? What size of piston like 3.898? That is correct?
You would be fine to run it NA. It should still run very good.

Ya, sorry I spelled it wrong. They are Mahle piston. I got them from EBAY, But SDPC has them too. I got the 3.898 ones since I stayed with the stock bore of the LS1. Make sure you get the right length piston for the right length rods. I would use 6.125 length (most common). I got my pistions for stock length rods cuz I was just gona use LS2 rods, then decided to get forged rods and the only one's I could find that would fit my pistions where the Scat I beam 6.100.
You would be fine to run it NA. It should still run very good.
