I have a 5.3 motor and want to go 5.7, but I also have an LS6 crank that's been micro-polished and had the oilholes chamfered. Anyone know whether to go with the LS6 or just reuse my 5.3 crank to save from any differences between the cranks, ie: balancer, flywheel, reluctor ring, etc.....(HIJACKED, Sorry)
any time you mix match rotating assemblies balance them. the last iron ls1 i used stock ls1 pistons and rods and balanced them and they did take weight off.

Nice! Makes sense. Aftermarket pistons will probably be lighter than stockers anyways, at a minimum not weigh the same. Oh well, the only stupid question is the one I didn't ask. What does the balancing cost typically?

The national average is $185.00, but can be significantly higher or lower in your area. Obviously Dirt Track Racer 81 has lower prices in his area of Oklahoma and while we have an abundance of machine shops down here, I would expect to pay a little more than what he has to. Also, depending on what you particular crank needs, additional costs may be accrued by them doing additional work.

Below are some national averages for different tasks related to the crankshaft.
Swap crank reluctor $39.53
Balance crankshaft $184.69
Clean crank $45.16
Polish crankshaft $41.36
Grind crankshaft $116.54
Straighten crankshaft $45.71
