I don't see GM using a V8 as a base engine though. I'm surprised as it is that they even put a V8 in it!

They are using the same engine that has been in the Trailblazers so it doesn't have the good heads and cam. Both are easily fixed though. Stock quarter mile times should be into the low 14's stock and low 13's to high 12's with bolt on's including a converter. With the D.O.D. it should get very good milage also. I don't see why the 4.8L isn't in the mix yet, but happy with the 5.3L option. If they made a regular cab with the 5.3L I'd consider it as a replacement for my current ride.
When do you anticipate it coming in? Would be interested to hear your opinion on the extended cab.

Here's a shitty scanned in pic from the 09' brochure, looks good:

I don't think it's going to be made in a single cab.... But I'd be interested in seeing a MAX on the Colorado.

I agree. Crankshaft stroke is a double edged sword and not needed as much in lighter vehicles.

if anyone wants to know why the 5.3 and even some 6.0s get better mileage in the full sizes it is because it requires less throttle to get the same speed and accelleration. aka a 4.8 requires more rpms to get the power of a 6.0, more rpms=more air/fuel mixture. those of us who like getting put back in our seats will usually get better mileage out of a more powerful engine because we push the less powerful engines farther.

in a lighter truck it takes less power to get to speed and to put you into your seat, therefor a 4.8 would work just fine, and it would have more then enough tq for the little truck. it would be about the same as a 5.3 in the fullsize, the 5.3 about the same power to weight ratio as the 6.0 in the full size(keep in mind this depends on the model).

I dont feel like getting all the hard numbers but to anyone one with common sence this makes sence.
