The 5.3L Colorado is here! What's the difference?

I get the same or better mileage with the 6.0 compared to the 4.8, so that debunks your theory.
I don't see GM using a V8 as a base engine though. I'm surprised as it is that they even put a V8 in it!

I don't want to argue with you, you are obviously very knowledgeable. With fuel economy being as critical as ever now, you would think GM would put the 4.8 over the 5.3 if it had any significant advantage in fuel economy. I never saw good gas mileage with the 4.8, and read many reports of people doing better with the bigger engine.

Just so I can initiate a pissing match, my RCSB 2wd '04 silverado with a 4.8L and 5spd got me 24.1 MPG with 3.73 gears on the interstate driving from Blanchard, OK to Minneapolis, MN. Picked the truck up brand new off the lot with only 6 miles on the odo and drove non stop back to Minneapolis at 75-80 MPH.

Now if you're talking day to day driving and you pound on it, you will see a difference between them, but nothing more than 2-3 mpg. And to me personally the brute force of the 6.0 is way worth the fuel loss.
