Default 5.3L 383 Stroker Engine Build - Displacement & Replacement

welp ive been looking around here for 6 hours straight for info on people who have made a stroker build outta their 5.3's. i found a bit here and there, some forged stuff, etc. but then i ran across this link in the dec. 2010 issue of truckin...let me just say trick flow and vortech made a sick statment. can you say 671 HP and 658 lb-ft of torque? read up, makes me wanna make a stroker outta my daily and slap a vortech twin screw on (or the tvs 1900/vortech centrifugal, even if forged internals and a kb/trick turbo setup would be well over the 700hp mark)

some products our sponsors carry on here would be really happy with what their products have done

there are so many good ways to go FI, but there is not an abundant amount of info stroking your 5.3. hopefully this article will start a discussion on that since it itself doesnt give all that much info either haha.

Most people think they want to stroke the 5.3 to make something around 383ci, but this also involves an overbore to the LS1 bore.

When you look at the cost of the bottom end and machine work, for a little more money you can get a 6.0 block and go 402 or 408. That's why there isn't a large amount of ~383 strokers on here.

Engine HP? That's about 540rwhp figuring drive-train loss?

Not bad but with stock heads some of us make more with less on our stock 5.3L longblocks

Yeah I have seen the cost is cheaper to get a 6.0 and do a 408 kit. There's more info here about it but my thought is that someone (like me) who would like to keep their original motor and go about something of this nature vs getting another motor. people may tell me I'm idiotic for not wanting to go 6.0 for the price but someone looking to beef up internals for FI wanting to hit the 600HP range for a daily would go this route vs. A larger bore that would produce more HP then again you can argue the fact that this could be done with a 408 and just use less boost for less stress on internals. this is all IMO of what I see and think. I will keep reading around about forged internals for FI apps and modded 6.0 to a 408. As well as prices and kits out there or aftermarket prices. Just thought this was a cool article. Keep up with the replies its always good to hear the knowledge of the smart guys on this forum

I make 575 to the rear wheels and run high 11's without nitrous. Stock internal 5.3 except for cam. Stock heads except for springs and push-rods.

Trust me, I can't use 1/2 throttle daily driving without drawing attention.

edit: I want to add that all those articles in the truck/performance rags seem like nothing more than paid advertisements to me.

I have been quoted $200 for a tq plate bore to stock ls1 bore on a 5.3 block. I have seen 5.3 blocks for $50 or free in some cases. plus the stock ls1 forged pistons are cheaper in most cases than a 4" bore piston. I have seen ~$300 for them on ebay. so depending on your shopping around skills, a 383 would be cheaper than a 402+ 6.0 stroker. I like the idea of using what you have vs spending major money to make a few extra ponys.

if i had that power id never go a day without drawing attention lol. but yeah pretty much any article is sponsor paid and driven. i just like to see power coming from a bored/stroked out 5.3 vs. the common 408.
