Default 5.3 upgrades

I have a set of ported 5.3 heads and am trying to figure out a good combonation. I was thinking of running the texas speed and performance 228r cam, has anyone had good luck with this type of combonation, if so are new fuel injectors required.

Plan on running a 3600+ converter with that cam.

And I would say new fuel injectors will be necessary.

What headwork did you have done, and on what heads? Did you do the headwork before or after the cam?

I do believe the cam came before the head work. Could be wrong though.

the heads i don't remember the casting numbers but they came off a 5.3 that i just had lying around. My local machine shop will be installing 2.0 intake valves and doing a full port job. I don't remember the exact flow numbers but we just played with them for a while and flowed them with stock valves. The reason I am thinking about going with the 228r is i just really want a radical sounding idle and of course the added power. I am getting a custom converter made i was looking at around 3400 but i guess i will need a bit more. the engine in the truck is completely stock except for bolt ons this is my winter project hoping to have everything done by april. Just how high am i going to have to rev the engine with the bigger cam and better flowing heads or i should say how high do most people turn them?

If I were to run a cam that big in a 5.3, I'd have the heads milled to yield somewhere in the neighborhood of 10.5 to 11:1 SCR, and probably a 3800-4k converter...

it depends on your definition of streetable

personally, for a truck that gets used as a truck, I would go smaller
