5.3 questions and help
#1
I decided to post this in the truck forum because the ls1 tech guys only think you can make good power with a stroker or just sell the 5.3 and buy a 6.0. Okay what I have is a 65 chevy II that I am putting carbed 5.3 with a th350. This will be a street strip car. I am looking for 10.99 quarter passes. The car is going to way around 3000lbs so I know i need around 450hp to the wheels. I am thinking that I can do it with a cam, head work(porting),get the compression around 10 to 1, and a little shot of nitrous. I want to run the stock block except for the cam. I don't have power brakes, ac, or power steering. All I will be running is the water pump and alternater. I would like your thought on a cam and what size to run. Also what kind of power should I be putting down without nitrous.

I don't know about the torque convertor until I decide what cam but I was thinking about a 3000 to a 3200 stall so it will still be streetable. I was thinking that some of you guy would be in the 370-390 NA range as far as horsepower. How much do some of you guys truck weigh that are running low 12's.

See the Dyno truck list....

and the drag racing list..

Most ecsb's weigh 5000-5300 and rcsb's ~ 4500-4800lbs
As for cam, just think slightly smaller than you would for the 5.7

5.3 crate motor I would think that these hp figures are at the motor but there is not really alot done to this motor. Do you think these numbers are right?

I don't think this engine will make 300hp to the rear wheels, but I am far from an expert. I would look at http://www.sdparts.com/product/19165...2HPEngine.aspx for a more realistic picture. The 5.3L HO rules
