Hey all-
Brand new to the forum, and have a question about a LQ4. I just bought a crate LQ4 (for under $1000!!) and I am going to go with Corvette/Fbody type FEAD so I can easily run the LS1/LS6 intake. This is going into a 1955 chevy truck on a modified frame (1/2 1979 truck and 1/2 1972 truck arm) and it is going to be a street ride. I am running 3.73:1 rear gears and a 4L60E trans (not sure about converter yet). Truck is going to weigh roughly 2500-3000 lbs. I am lookig for 400-425 RWHP. Any ideas.... any comments..... and info..... would be greatly appreciated!!

with the light wight you are on a better foot with the 60e than the rest of us but yeah, that is the weak link in the equation.
Bolt ons for the gen III's are all the same. Post up some pics of the "project"!!

Well I am actually just starting this project. This will be my first Start-Finish project. I just aquired the cab and front fenders to go with the rest of the body I have; I had a couple of trucks around here that I decided to fuse for a good street frame (to save money of course); and so I have really just been getting parts and ideas together. I have all the parts to build a pretty hot .060" over 396 BB, but I decided I wanted to contemperarize (I know it's not a word) and go with the LS series motor. They make tons of power per square inch and I think it's more driveable and cleaner all around. The rear end I already have also. But I came across that crate motor for $970 shipped and I was like SIGN ME UP!! So I have been trying to study up and do some figures, so I can save some money and buy the right parts when the time comes. I'd love to make the 400 HP work, so like I said any advise on type of heads, type of cam, intake, blah blah blah would be great!! Also, I would rather not go boost yet, and I really don't want to go into the bottom end either if it's not neccesary. And as soon as I have some of this stuff up and going, I'll definitely post some pics. I'll be here trying to learn some stuff from ya'll so, thanks in advance!!!!

Why do you have a specific horsepower in mind? Do you know that this "ideal" number is going to get you to a certain goal? Sounds like you're trying to builkd a nice street ride, don't end up joining the donkey dick club and putting some ginormous camshaft in. Build your motor for the most average torque across a usable powerband. This is what will help you build a stoplight bruiser. Stay tuned for more info tomorrow, I think I found another place to dyno my truck and they may have a late afternoon opening. I'll post up some numbers and maybe you can build something similar to what I have.
