Well I guess it's not that important, but I originally wanted an LS2, but it was price prohibitive (once again...not sure that's a word but you catch my drift). So I decided to buy this engine, when I found the crate engine for 970. I just had the number in my head from the LS2 HP and it sounded like a good number. I am not THAT concerned with it. I am also trying to do this on a budget, so what could I expect with a good tune and a decent camshaft leaving the stock LQ4 heads and running headers (probably shorties though). Also I will be running an LS1 type intake. I don't want it to be a slouch against normal drivers either however. That is all that I for sure know right now. And I may be able to go deeper into the pocket for some hp since it will be a little while before I get to the engine phase of this project. So, what could I expect with that type of setup. And like I said, any suggestions are helpful to me. (So basically I am most concerned with the way she'll sound, and perform as a driver. Probably won't be breaking track records )

The LQ4 is underrated stock. Parish estimated his stock LQ4 made about 350HP at the flywheel. The power difference between it and the LS2 is higher compression and a different cam. It's not a big deal. There's really no way to justify the exorbitant prices people want for LS2's compared to the steal you got on your 6 liter.

What? You don't have a 26x/26x cam with .650/.650 lift spraying off the line with a 4000 rpm converter? What did I miss, your truck ran like a raped ape the other night...??....???

Oh wait...I know. You build for torque and practicality to take advantage of your displacement, not wind the motor out like a 4-banger.

on the DD club. They're all compensating for something.

Well, I thought it was a good price and I knew it could be made into a really good power provider. So, what reccomendations would you propose for me to take the best advantage of what I have without too much modification?

You got a great base with the LQ4. Couldn't ask for more really, sans the LQ9.

I'd add LS6 heads, longtube headers, and a cam of your choice. Since your truck will be very light, you could afford to go with a bigger cam since you won't need as much low end to get moving. The 218/224, TR220 or TR224 would be good. This would put you well over LS2 power and should be right around, or maybe a little more than what an LS3 puts down.

Perhaps see hirdlej's build and dyno run first before saying the modified LQ4 can match an LS3. That thing is an LQ4 on steroids without a whole lot of $$$ put into it. It's a low buck practical build that definitely put a smile on my face riding bitch seat.

We'll find out tomorrow hopefully......... I bet after selling all my stock parts I didn't want, then being practical when putting new parts in......... I don't have more than $2,000 stuck in my build and that's including new OBX-R headers I put on
