This is a 500+ hp at the crank set-up here. This guys results are what made me decide to upgrade the heads on my truck. Now I wish I had a bigger cam, lol.

If this is not going to be a daily driver then you should look into msd's carb kit for the ls style engine. You want have to worry about a fuel system for fuel injection and no wiring harness to mess with. Car craft did a project with the lq4; they took the msd carb kit, gm hot cam, and long tube headers and made 480 fwhp at 6k rpms. I think their total price was about $3,700 and that included the used motor they bought. It's a great bang for the buck!
However, if you're going to be driving this on a daily basis and looking for improved mileage then go with the fuel injection. It will cost more at first but will be worth it in the drivability of the truck. And the mods that are mentioned earlier in this thread are great matches for the power you're looking for. Good luck with your project.

a bolton/tuned 6.0 will make 400hp. 325 is were gm rated them but thats only on 18 degees of timing, they are vary detuned and even then they are a little under rated. with a long tube header, intake, and a good tune you can do it. With a 224 cam i but it would make 460ish at the crank.
