so, it is unrealistic money wise to upgrade your 4.8 to a 5.3.
also can you bore out the 4.8 to fit the 5.7 piston rod cramk set up?
would that be a better option for money. oviouly this route will be more but greater overall effect

yes, the ls1 bore size is the max you want to go though. possibly the more economical thing would be to get a crank and rods out of a 5.3. They have the same rods and stroke as a 5.7 ls1. Just buy some good ls1 pistons.

JE? i'd be interested in some ls1 pistons, what kinda improvement woudl you expect to see in those aside from the difficulty of install but it woudl be a cool thing to do during a cam swap...what kinda suporting mods wouldbe needed?

the entire engine would have to come out and the block bored of course. No other supporting mods needed. The 4.8/5.3 heads have a little smaller combustion chamber so that would need to be considered when looking at compression ratings on pistons for an LS1. I'd put a set of $69 arp rod bolts in it while it was out. Also you need to look for pistons for a 6.098 rod length and a .945 wrist pin. The 6.125 .927 is an aftermarket rod. JE, Mahle, & Diamond all have a good selection of off-the-shelf gen 3 pistons.

If we could get some time slips between all the motors we could do a better comparo. 4.8 vs 5.3 vs 6.0.
Whats the differences between the reg. 6.0 and the Vortec MAX?
