That's an old thread, another one of the GM parts counter guys on here looked it up a while back and the 4.8 and the L33 5.3 pistons are the SAME part number... I believe the L33 is 9.9 comp.

 

the pistons do have the same part number!!! GM PN 89017577 is the 4.8 piston and L33 piston.

 

Don't you have a few motors to be building????

 

Then why can't you put 6.0 pistons on 4.8 rods?

I just did the math on this.... with my heads (58cc) and a stock head gasket, my CR would be ~10.87 and DCR ~8.99... This might be a project that i do while Katie is out of town... It would be cheap as hell...

 

you just need a crank. i have some rods.

 

I am researching ... I can't be without my truck for long cause I sold the beater, so i would need the motor ready to go once the 4.8 is pulled.

I am looking at car-part.com, i can get a complete low mileage 5.3 for ~500... I would guess all i would need is some 4.8 pistons, rings, head gaskets and bolts....

 

I've wanted to try this for a long time but people would always tell me that they were'nt compatible, but then i saw that 5.3 engine with the TFS 205 and it stated that they had done that, so that proves that it can be done. I'll try to get ahold of some 4.8 pistons so that i can try it.
