Default 4.8 Liter Help

So I'm looking for help on how to build a decent 4.8L. I'm in need of any direction. Also looking to boost it, but have no idea where to get manifolds or plumb it. I've seen a lot of builds that have ls6 cam and heads/ valve springs, are these good combinations for boost?

Normally, I wouldnt say this. But, do a search. Their are many threads about all your questions. Go to the project section, and check out some peoples builds. Good luck with your build.

I should know more about some of the valvetrain stuff but at the school I go to they have the machines to do the work so the labor part isn't going to be that much it's just how far to take it and how difficult it is to do. I guess I should have said trying to do this on somewhat of a budget (broke college student). The kits from trick seem pretty expensive for what you get. Also with a turbo build is it a given to get rid of the mechanical fan and do dual electrics?

yea clutch pan has to go,

a boost set-up will run about 5-6k for just the parts, plus trans, rear end upgrades

save up 10k and you will have a nice reliable 500rwhp truck

it's a 5 speed so I'm not sure what beefing up I'd have to do it. I'm in a town where it's pretty easy to get a turbo set up. I did find a motor that has had some things done to it like valve springs, cam, ARP rod bolts, and high flow oil pan. The person says it's ready to be boosted, but they are asking only $1200 for it so it raises the question of why did they have to put upgraded rod bolts in?

How big are you wanting to go? The great thing about trick kits is they are very complete with big potential. You can build a flipped manifold kit for a little bit less if you have the access to the tools and the ability to build it yourself. The cheapest kit on the market I know of is from On3 performance, but you will be paying for Chinese components and be somewhat limited on power.

I'm not sure how much power I can push through the stock GM 5 speed case. So as for now I'd be happy with 500 to the wheels. Found a motor with ls9 cam, ls6 springs, high flow oil pump, and ARP rod bolts, not sure how many miles but seller claims it's "boost ready" thinking of picking it up for the price they want and tearing it down over winter. Any thoughts?

LS9 cam is a "boost" cam, but not the best turbo cam. The 5speed seems to put up with a whole lot more than I ever expected. I have seen a heads/cam 5.3 survive more than 3 years of 150shot blasts. 500 can be done pretty easy. Throw 10lbs at almost an 5.3 and you will be close. Especially thru a 5speed.
