Default 4.8 Cam Swap

I am thinking about getting an LS6 Cam for the 4.8 and I was wondering if I would have any poblems passing smog with it. I am in California afterall. And I was also wondering if I would need a higher stall converter too. Any info or other suggestions will be much appreciated.

You should pass smog just fine. The ls6 cam idles just like stock. You would not be disappointed with a higher stall converter.

I installed an LS6 cam into a truck of mine one time, and was disappointed with the results. If it were me I would go with a bit larger aftermarket cam. Texas speed for instance has some really nice ones to chose from. Good luck with your modding.

you probably would not need a higher stall. i would reccomend one to anybody though. my circle d was a great improvement before my cam. with that cam a trailblazer stall would be good imo

A Circle-D modified trailblazer converter would be a nice addition to that cam for sure. You can get by without one, but it will be much better and much more fun to drive if you got one. You could probably do with a mild 2600 converter, but a little more, like 2800-3k would be even better, especially once the bug really bites you and you decide that you want more than a Corvette cam Smog will not be a problem, as long as the PCM is properly tuned to accept the cam

What could I expect as far as a power increase for that cam?

I liked the gains/per dollar on my 4.8 when I installed the LS6 cam. This was a pre-turbo cam install. Like others said, nice mid-high end gains.

With that said, it's a 4.8L. If you got the money to buy a bigger cam and plan to stay N/A, go larger.
Also I like the truck man, looks clean.

Definitely good to know.

Thanks. I do try to keep it as clean as I can. Still have a ton of pics I need to upload.

Anybody have any before and after dyno numbers/et's? Just trying to get an idea of the gains.
