Please quit posting in this thread...you guys are making me want to scatter the 5.3L....

Seriously though, I am throwing 650 hp to the crank and after 19 months of FI, the stock G80 with 3.73's are still in one piece. A lot of my boosted Av breathren have long since scattered spider gears all over the south east, but for whatever reason both my G80 and stock 4L60E are still in one piece. Like, DHPRO, mine is a daily driver and I don't run to the track to see how fast I can push a 6000# leadsled. I have; however, logged several of sub-5 second 0-60 times.......

With all that said, I know I am on borrowed time with the drivetrain. I paid Chuck at FLT last week to build me a level 5. I am also replacing the 9.5" Edge racing stall with a 3 disc setup so at that point the weak link is indeed the G80...... (3.73 gears spinning 305/50/20's)

I would like to find someone who builds a direct swap 12 bolt or dana 4 link to replace the entire weak 10 bolt setup though.......

Anyway, I am looking forward to pics and video's of this beast... Might be enough to push me over the edge...

IMO...upgrade to the 4L80 instead of the level 5. Price was $1000 delivered, $3000 for the conversion and prob another $750 for the install. All I did was add a shift kit. TC is a Vig 2600 that was part of the price of the conversion kit....thats the same as the cost of an FLT (or darn close), and now that the conversion is done, if it ever does puke (doubtful at my HP level) it'll only cost me $1000 for another instead of the whole dime on another level 5...thats really what pushed me over the top on my decision to do the 4L80. It sounds like big hassel, but really its not that big a deal. R/

Yeah I thought long and hard about it. I just didn't want to hassle with the crossmember, new driveshaft, new harness, and splicing a tranny tune outta another truck to the 5.3L. I do all my own tuning so the tune hassle is not desirable on my daily driver... Now if I were doing a 6.0L swap at the same time, this would be different. The 60E has been handling 525 rwhp for a while now, so I don't see the need to step up to the 80E...yet...

Plus, other AV members doing this swap lost a lot of power through the 80E as recorded on a dyno....guess that's one of the prices you pay for the ability to handle more power....

The Level 5 was $2500.00 with a $400.00 install for a direct swap.... I will not even lose a day doing the swap, so it was a no brainer for me....Tune is exactly the same on the new tranny since I run a shift kit and stall right now.... I guess one day I will scatter the 5.3 and justify the effort of doing the 80E swap....

Check the photobucket...there are several including all installed with the MP122...my guys have had death in the family, allergic reations to medication, and half the shop out sick, so the last week has been a write off. I haven't even seen the thing running yet since they solved the low oil pressure prob. I hope to take delivery later this week or next sat. They will put a few miles on it this week, then - EEK! - I'm gonna have my wife use it for her soccer mom errands for the week after that before the long weekend drive up to my cottage (150miles each way)...that really got me nervous frankly cause help is hard to come by on a long weekend! At least I know my wife will baby it and it'll get 200 miles of short spurts and stop & go's. Hope to have some more pix this week and video ASAP...I'm still waiting to see the remote coil install and remote filter as well. Its been a 4 wk install with all the fab work and I'm tired of driving my rental ...even the wifes Cayenne doesn't make me feel any better!

Your wife drives a Cayenne??? I guess the extra power won't be too much for her to handle then! Sounds like you guys need to get an extra/beater since your kids will need one anyways one day. Might as well it be you so you can break it in for them! Hope you get the truck soon, I know the feeling of waiting on others.

ya...shuda bot b4 I spent the cash on the rental, but never got around to it! My son needs something starting this winter, and he sure won't be driving mine or the wifes! I have been lookin for a candidate for my 5.3l & MP112 with 4l60e. R/
