I haven't messed with a small block chevy in a long time so I wouldn't know where to begin, but am I correct in thinking that a 350 block can be stroked to 383? If so, that's the direction I'd be going I'm sure that you can find most of the parts that you need right in the Summit and Jegs catalogs

If you wanna keep it very streetable you have the edelbrock performer kit which is very good plus it will pass smog if that a prob for you. Or you can use AFR 185cc heads a comp 260 cam, and a peformer manifold to keep the Q-jet. Have the carb rebuilt by a race shop such as PC carb. Either of those would be one hell of a good driven motor with excellent torque. You could aslo go 383 which would be even better.
But for either 383 or 350 use
9-1 comp piston such as hypertechtonic " I know I butchered it"
roller rockers, summit racings are good for street
keep the Q-jet once set they stay that way, and a Holley will only give you trouble unless you go way big.
Edelbrock performer or Weiland equivalant with a 1 inch spacer is always good.
Add a good windage tray for a few free hp, and better oil control.
If you want a roller cam they add torque but for the cost it may not be worth it unless yoou just want it.
