I had symptoms that pointed to a rod knock. It was only there at light acceleration, not idle, cruise, or hard acceleration. It was also there at light deceleration. Not there at sudden throttle chop as bad. Every symptom and the sound pointed to a rod bearing.
It turned out to be a stainless braided fuel line barely touching the firewall during throttle transitions.

It's crazy what something rubbing can sound like.
