2011 Tahoe AFM delete cam
#1
Guys,
I want to delete the AFM and swap a new cam into the wife's 2011 tahoe once the tax return comes this year. I want a cam that will give me the same or better fuel mileage with lots of torque. I have a Comp 206/212 in my truck and that swap gave me +2 MPG, I would like to find something similar for this newer engine and retain the VVT capabilities. This will be the first time I mess with one of the newer engines. What do I need for the conversion? It sounds like I would need headgaskets and LS7 lifters and ?pushrods? Anything else? Can I run LS9 valvesprings?
Thanks,
Greg

After searching through the BTR website I decided against it because they didn't have cam specs listed on their website and a lot of stuff was out of stock, that's a red flag to me. I've sourced all the parts I need for the AFM delete except for cam/springs/pushrods. Does anyone have recommendations for a mild VVT cam to retain fuel mileage?

If you dont want to lose any fuel mileage the factory L9H cam is prob your best bet. The specs are 198/209 .500/.500 115 LSA. Part number 12623065. These are very similar specs to the 2000 LS1 cam in the corvettes, alot of truck guys went to this cam back in the day for a small bump in power.

TSP has a package that has a VVT-compatible camshaft. https://www.texas-speed.com/p-5332-t...t-package.aspx
The nice thing is they include a phaser cal table which should save on complexity trying to tune, and they are the only ones I'm aware of that do this. I don't think too many tuners have experience in optimizing that portion of the cal
As for mileage improvement potential, you'll have to inquire with them.

Call Scoggins Dickey, they may have it in stock. LS6 springs would be a good idea, stock pushrods should be fine. Its a factory VVT cam so all you need to do is pull your AFM cam and install this one, everything gets re-used except the AFM Lifters and the AFM Valley Cover.
