Thanks for explaining things further.

When we hear "toy hauler," we think large enclosed trailer or camper. Pulling a small camper, motorcycle, or occasional car trailer is a little different.

With that in mind, we'd be comfortable looking at something in the TSP Stage 3 range. We could also see going with the common 212/218-ish range, such as the Cam Motion Titan 2 LS Truck cam at .553/.553, 212/220 112+4. Either of these would work with LS6-style beehive springs.

One thing we like about the Titan 2 is that Cam Motion provides the ground-in advance, which allows us to properly calculate the valve events. That puts the Titan 2 at a 34* intake valve closing point. TSP doesn't provide the ground-in advance on the Stage 3, but we'd estimate it's installed somewhere around +2 to +4, which would put the IVC in the 36-38* range.

The Titan 2's earlier IVC is going to keep more of the low-rpm manners and towing characteristics intact, while the Stage 3 shifts things a little more toward the fun side. Neither is wrong. It just depends on where you want the truck to land between grocery getter and weekend toy.

Neither of these cams are going to be chop monsters, which generally isn't ideal for a daily-driven truck that occasionally tows. That said, both should have a noticeable idle. If you're after a little more attitude, tuning can bring out the chop in just about any cam.

As for the rest of the combo, having the heads checked over while they're off is a good idea.

Since "you're already in there," it's a good idea to refresh some supporting parts. A fresh set of lifters, trays, trunnion upgrade, oil pump, water pump, cam retainer plate, timing chain, VVT delete, and head change gasket set can go a long way toward improving reliability and provide some peace of mind.

Truck just needs more boost, thats all.

But you would be more happy with a smaller cam since its going to be used for work.
I use the Titan 2 212/220 112 in most trucks. It gives them enough sound to make them happy but still be able to keep low end torque.
Especially with those heads. No need in any port n polishing since they are already really good flowing heads.
You can actually pickup some low end torque going to a 317 head but you will loose higher rpm power.
