Default 07 5.3 head gasket rt. side fail

Hey gurus ,this is a buddys 200k work truck was ,making giant clouds of smoke at start up and continued to as long as it was running,I pulled 02s on both sides, obvious it was passenger side.Pulled the head, looked like it was getting pumped though most all the cylinders on that side,No oil in coolant, head gasket had been replaced before,he bought it with 150k miles, peplaced bfore he got it,I checked head for straight and tossed on a new felpro, all seems all good, anything common on these to fail like this? no coolant crossover in the back, detonation a cause? pistons had no marks.Ive worked on a lot of 5.3 and 6.0 ,and had only heard of head gasket problems, first time seeing.fans seem to come on atleast with AC on,doesnt overheat.Any ideas to prevent same issue advice appreciated. Thanks And yes "search" is your friend ...got it...tried it

I had an 04 That I worked on like that and it was in issue with the deck. Customer didn't want to spend the money on it So we used Indian head on a new MLS gasket. and told him to cross his fingers.

I had another block that when I took it to the machine shop, The passenger side of the deck had a low spot in the middle. Also found the core was shifted to the driver side. All though it was only a few thousands by the time the deck was cleaned up the piston would have been out of the hole .015 and we would have to cut the deck on the Driver side to match.

I haven't seen many head gaskets go bad on daily stock ls motors. But I did have a suburban come in recently with a blown headgasket affecting mostly cylinder 1 and some on 3.

Oddly on of the head bolts between the two cylinders was pretty loose and some other head bolts seemed to take a bit less to break loose, they were all near cylinder 1 and 3.

I couldn't find any other issues so I had a cleanup deck done on the heads and slapped new gaskets on it.

It had 250k when it came in. It's still running great and it's been about a year.
