Default Truck buying help.........

Hey guys- as you all know, or most of you all I've been deciding on a Gen 5 truck. I've got a 2016 scoped out and making all the arrangements in my head; sell this truck, going there for that truck etc.... And this was all gonna happen Dec 3. But then it struck me- this is right around the Xmas rush time and would I be better off waiting until Jan for #1 all the hoopla died down and #2 could the truck in fact be discounted in Jan as nobody has any money left? Thanks for y'alls expertise...…………..

P.S. Oh yeah- and would the market be a bit more saturated with 2019's by then as well have a further effect on used prices...……...

Waiting that long could mean the truck would already be sold.

Around here there are tons of used 2016-2018 trucks and the prices are very competitive. I watched some trucks for several weeks and most dealerships only went down $200-600 in that time. They start them higher, work there way down and just settle because they know the worth of the truck.

Right now around here it's 25-30k for a 40,000-80,000 mile truck depending on options and cab size. Crew cabs always cost more money and often those are in the low 30's still for a low mileage LT truck with lots of options.

Some dealers won't deal despite the the amount of time. I watched a used duramax sit because they wouldn't budge on price.
A friend went and looked at it and even told them if they drop the price He would buy it right then and there and pay Cash. They said no.
3 weeks later they called him up and said they would take a small amount off. Like $500. he Said no thanks, I already bought a truck.
They called again another week after that But a different salesman and tried again. He said sorry, You guys didn't want to deal and I already bought another truck.

He had a check from an insurance company because he was totaled Which is how he could pay for it Up front.

Took a closer look- seems that the price drops monthly, looking like if I wait 'till Jan I could save another thousand bucks but, also the truck could be gone...……..

Go in and see if they will deal now. Sometimes you would be surprised.

Took 15 min to make a deal on my D-max and I didnt even test drive it. Ironically I have only bought parts and never dealt with sales or service at this Dealership.

It was only listed for 1 day on Cargurus. They had just put it out on the lot and they didn't even know where the paperwork or keys were on it. It took longer for them to write the sales contract and financing paperwork on it.

Usually I get the run around and end up walking when dealing with salesmen.

I wouldn't get too concerned about that truck disappearing, 31k for a double cab with 49k isn't exactly hard to find.

The crew cabs cost considerably more and I got my high option SLT crew cab for $23,800 but with 113k miles. If I can find that you can find a double cab with 50k for under 30 I would think.

I feel like $31k is a lot for a 3 year old truck (2019s are out) with 50k miles but that may just be me. I would think you could get close to that on an 18 since the new models are out and dealer lots are plentiful with the outgoing models. I'm glad for my truck that the used market is solid but that's what drove me to buy new. I've never bought used from a dealer either, always private party (and until recent years old and project vehicles lol)... I'm always scared I'll get the auction reject at a dealer.

I only paid $33,600 for my CCSB 5.3 LT All Star package truck new last November and that's in Alaska where deals are hard to come by, there's only 3 GM dealers to pick from and 2 of them are owned by the same company. Just did a quick search in NM and they're showing $10k off crew cabs currently, if it was me I would hit up their chat function/online sale team the last week of the month and see what kind of deals they're willing to throw out there, I was surprised by what I got and couldn't pass up the deal. You should be able to get 20-25% off of sticker with the right package/rebate combo. I would happily pay $35k for a new truck vs $31k for a used model but that is totally a personal preference. If I'm out that kind of money the piece of mind knowing as much as possible goes a long way.

I bought my 2011 and my 2017 at the end of November, in person for the 2011 and online (still took to long to do the paperwork there). I feel like it's a great month to get a deal on the outgoing year model and the sales team is usually motivated with the holidays around the corner, the end of the month is a great way to shorten the sales cycle.

The only real bummer about buying a new truck that is say 35k is that there are no add on's that a previous owner has done lol. I've seen some deals on crew cab truck for around that too, some of the loner trucks with maybe 2-3k miles on them.

The 2016 I bought had GM side steps and the nice access tonneau cover already, those alone are about $1,000-1,200 if a dealership installed them. Mines that same color, Siren Red metallic or whatever it's called. Gets dirty/dusty super fast lol.

Yeah, tint/debaged within a week, take off 20s... all part of the initial expense lol. I love the color all 4 days a year it's clean, Alaska is not kind to cleanliness.
