oil thread

First 2 years are free oil changes....so its getting the free stuff. They can put crude in it for all I care. I think my dealership uses Quaker State and Castrol for synthetics...you have to pay extra for the M1.
After that, Royal purple...its cheap and easy to get....and that's how we all should like things...LOL
I am a big believer in not over thinking oil. Use whats called for, use a good filter and if you think you need more protection, change it more often.
If you have access to a lab, get it tested, see when they say you should change it.
I have read many threads that spew data and BS for 20+ pages, and guys spending ridiculous cash on oil changes cause "x brand" is better than "y brand"
Its oil...not rocket surgery
That said...if you plan on major mods...you may want to look at it a little harder.

Yes the new trucks have a large capacity sump, they hold 9 qts! Just a word of advise, DO NOT use a fram filter on these newer engines (2010-current). GM released a bulletin a couple years ago about after market filters coming apart and sending debris through the engine stopping up oil passages causing engine failure. We had a buick enclave come in a while back with a fram on it that had took a dump and caused crank bearing failure so beware of aftermarket filters (fram). Also, one reason they switched to 0w20 oil is because of active fuel management, it supposedly opperates better and is less likely to sludge causing issues down the road.

I just put a fram filter on it. so just not fram or best go buy them from the dealer?
lets hope this one lasts because i dont want to dump 9 quarts of new oil to replace just the filter

You should be able to swap a filter w/o dropping all of your oil....unless they moved the filter location.
You just spin off the filter replace and top the sump back to the full level. You should be down about 1/2 quart...ish.
I like WIX filters...K&N I have also heard are good.
I wouldn't use a Fram filter on my lawn mower.

We've got a saying around the shop, Cram it before you fram it. You should be fine to use Wix or some quality filter. Of course I would recommend Ac Delco, but I wouldn't even consider a fram even as a last resort. I would leave the old filter on before using a fram
