Default Intake mod

I recently installed a airaid MIT tube and for some reason my mpgs went down. I didn't know y so I popped the whole thing off and looked at the stock airbox. It has just one opening to get air from so I decided to cut the fender side open all the way and add a second whole in the bottom. The difference was a lot bigger than the airaid tube. Now it pulls a lot harder and it's actually getting better mpg than before.

How much mpg did you pick up?? I was going to do this to my box, but after looking at the fender couldnt see where the advantage would be to it, granted i wasnt looking at cutting the bottom out too, where does that one piece snap into, i am trying to picture it in my overexhausted brain!!! Biggest thing i noticed when i installed my mit was the grow(for lack of a better word) you tend to get with aftermarket intakes!

The best I have ever done on the hwy is 17 im at 20 now. The piece that clip on is the fender side cover. It is just held on by 3 tabs that u can see from the pics where i cut the bigger hole out of.

Im averaging about 11, but with a 4l60 and 3.73 with a bad bearing in my front differential.... Probably really skewed by fact i work less than 3 miles from the house, and the second job is basically on the way home..... And i have a bad habit of letting the truck idle... Almost got me wanting to go pull my box out and mod it now!!!

yeah my average shows 15mpg. short commute in traffic, and work out my truck so i idle around all day. i rarely get 300 miles out of a tank.
