Default Evaporator (a/c) leak?

My 03 Silverado has an a/c leak. It's been developing for several years. I "topped off" the refrigerant charge several years ago - probably 3 - and it was good for a couple years; late in the a/c season last year it quit cooling. Charged it a few weeks ago and it was ice cold for a couple weeks; now it's starting to struggle.

I looked all around the compressor, lines, condenser amd receiver/drier today and couldn't find any wet spots, so I'm thinking it's probably an evaporator. I do have an electronic "sniffer" (I was a Benz tech for many years - been out of it for 10 years but still have all my tools), which I haven't yet used.

I'm planning to pull the blower motor to get my sniffer up in the evap case to try to verify the evap leak. Is this going to work for access to the evap? It looks like it should...

Anyone have any comments on whether or not an evap leak is "common" on these trucks? Granted, the truck is 15 years old at this point - it could be anything. But like I said, I don't see any telltale wet spots from refrigerant oil like I'd expect to frim an a/c leak.

Int thing I haven't done is separate the radiator and condenser and check the back side of the condenser for leaks. I guess there might be so.ething there...

You may have better luck in the forums that aren’t specifically for 2014+ trucks
