A/C Evaporator core leak
Anyone here have had or heard of A/C Evaporator leaks in the GMT900 trucks?
My 2008 has just 52,000 miles on it and I have been getting a freon/pag oil smell thru my vents. About a month after it first started, sure enough my air wasn't getting as cold as it used to. I checked and it was low,put some R134A in it,back cold again. Now 3 weeks later still smelling that band-aid smell and low again.
Geesh,Am I just unlucky to get a bad one? This can't be an easy replacement. I assume dash removal?

Put dye in it and have the system leak checked before you change the EVAP. Yes the dash has to come out.
These trucks are notorious for dirty socks sour smell out of the a/c vents during the summer time due to bacteria growth on the evaporator that could be causing the smell you describe.
Yes I have changed a couple of evaporators of the last few years. Definitely not enough to call it a pandemic. I just call it normal manufacturing failure.
