Default need help with the ac evaporator temperature sensor

My ac issues were diagnosed as being a bad evaporator temperature sensor. I have a 2009 1500 crew cab. I was told the proper way to do it is pull dash remove case and replace. I was also told there's a quick way, drill hole in case replace cover and fix hole. Wandering if anyone has made this repair. A write up would be helpful
Thanks in advance
