C7 intake manifold on my 5.3
#51
did you guys get to 3rd gear to make sure it doesn't knock when the load goes up? My truck took a lot of timing and lean mixtures in 1st and 2nd but went nuts in 3rd (older trucks did that as well), had to richen the fuel mixture and reduce timing so it doesn't knock in 3rd gear. This is with 93 octane fuel, so when you say 13.0:1 is this across the rpm range or what?
If you haven't verified yet, get into 3rd gear at WOT while logging.

we did my truck in 3rd and 4th with no knock. My tuner has not finished tuning on mine yet and i have not messed with it much but so far its at 329rwhp and a steady gain from 35k rpm up. my previous numbers on 87 octane with just air intake and no muffler were 310hp. Now with no changes other than the c7 intake and tb, and 93 octane with some minimal tuning we are at 329. My tuner predicts 340ish. my current e85 number is 337. so i will be happy if i end up with that but on 93. hopefully this week we will finish it

a/f is pretty rock solid at 13.0 WOT. It may differ slightly at lower rpm but I have not really looked for that. The max timing looks a little lower on the PCM of NC tune than it was on the Diablosport tune. Diablo was showing 26 - 27 degrees at peak rpm. PCMofNC is about 22 degrees. It's about 26 - 27 below 4,000 then tappers off to 22. Diablo was also richer. With the current PCMof NC tune, WOT 1/4 mile through 3 gears has 0.0 knock retard. I think the timing may be a little conservative actually. My WOT shift points are also a little low. I think manually shifting near 6,000 rpm with this tune will net new personal best times but I was having trouble documenting it with my accelerometers yesterday. Where I go I don't like to hang around more than a couple 1/4 mile passes in case some of the home owners call the sheriff. I'm met him on my way out a couple times after making too many passes. I'll talk to PCM of NC about bumping my shift points and timing but not sure when I can get back up there. It would be really nice if they could e-mail me a tune from HPTuners and I could install it with my Diablosport IN-Tune.

I did not make it back to PMC of NC to tweak the shift points. It's just hard to get there before they close during the week and they will not make special arranges outside of normal hours. Their tune as is will not give better E.T.'s than the Diablosport. If I manually shift and if I can shift near 6,000 without touching the rev limit, I can make it go faster than the Diablosport. But it's hard to manually shift at just the right time. During a shift the rpm's flash and if you are too close the rev limit which I think is set a 6,000 now or just slightly above, I hit it and lose time. But, PMC of NC stood up and gave great customer service beyond expectations. Since it was not faster than the Diablosport, they gave me a full refund. They offered to flash it back to stock so I could go back to Diablosport or leave their tune in. That was really great of Kelly. I will leave their tune in and either have a local tuner bump the shift points and rev limit up or I will purchase my own HPTuners software and learn to do some simple things myself.
On a separate note: I tried launching in 4wd then switching back to 2WD after the launch and got a 13.91 1/4 mile at 105 mph. 60' was 2.32 sec. 1/8 mile was 9.10 @ 81 mph. 0-100 mph was 12.74 sec. Those are my best times to date.
And I guess a positive note is switching from the L86 intake manifold to the LT1 manifold does not appear to require a new tune on the 6.2. The ecm seems to be able to make the necessary corrections needed

sorry, I dropped off line so long. I got on a motorcycle project.
I don't have anything else on a 5.3 swap. I ended up getting my own HPTuners software and got my shifting the way I want it. I have not gone back to check my performance data but it feels way better. No problems at all.
