Default 4.3l swap to?

Hello, I'm new to this site and new to engine building and swaps, but a few months ago I got a killer deal on a 2014 reg can short bed from the dealership I work at it had some front end damage so as a body guy I fixed it for nothing lol but I'm missing that v8 rumble and I was wondering if I could somehow put in the a built 5.3 ls block? Could I put in a older gen computer and it work? Could I use a stand alone kit and have all my accessories still work? Should I just put the l83 and wiring harness in? Should I get a new computer with that as well?

You'd have to go full standalone if you used a different non direct injection engine. So you'd have no gauges or anything like that either. The transmission would have to be swapped too because the standalone likely can't control the 6L80e transmission.

Buying a L83 with wiring sounds easier and faster. Then I'd assume because you work for a dealership they could try flashing the computer with a stock 5.3 V8 file to make it work. Maybe someone here has done this already.

Would it matter that's it's a v6 computer?

If the computer is the same for V6 and V8, no that shouldn't matter. It's just the calibration inside the computer that would have to be changed.

I would sell the truck and upgrade since you got it looking good. Be patient and it would save a lot of hassle imo. Wish I could do what you can though! I fix air conditioners for a living but man it's not a fun hobbie like this stuff!

You're right I could, but like I said I got a killer deal and don't owe anything the 5.3 rcsb for sale near me go for 10 grand or more than I paid for mine with higher miles and as I've been looking into it heavily for the past few days I've found some l83 blocks for under a grand and I could buy one put diamond or wiseco pistons and a lumpy cam in the block while I'm still driving it. And once I get it finished could I just swap the engine and harness and get the ecu flashed and returned?

btw the body industry is great I love it but at the same time it sucks haha
