2018 LTZ Z71 5.3L Upgrades?
#11
I got a feeling I'm going to pile the parts up and do it all at once, like literally all in one day and load it up and take it to get tuned the following day.

I did the manifold/tb and headers at the same time and was pleased with the results. Definitely agree with the above tho if you have to split them up do the exhaust side of things first.

hard to argue with this. I spent a few grand on CAI, cat back, catch can and ECU/TCM tune for small gains. I could have bought a roots style blower for the same cost, then paid an additional money for ONLY ECU tuning and make another hundred hp and 150 tq than I have now. My truck is pretty loud when cold starting in the mornings. I only have Corsa cat back. I cant believe people have long tubes, no cats and cat back. Its gotta be ridiculously loud.

I ran a single cat with long tubes and a cat back and truthfully it wasn't that loud outside. Inside was different. Even with the big *** magnaflow muffler. The borla xr1 was ridiculously loud outside but no one is shocked by that statement. Surprisingly, it wasn't that much louder inside than the magnaflow.

With long tubes and no cats dumped over the axle and I can hear it from inside when I remote start, but can't hear it idle unless the garage door is open and I am in the kitchen (shares a wall with the garage).
I feel like mine is "loud" on initial start up, and some could say at wot (I wouldn't), but it is very mild at idle and cruise. You can hear it inside but it is only slightly louder than before the long tubes.

Bgbldodge did you like your XR1 with headers and no cats. It was just to loud??
I want more volume at idle to here the cam and I'm thinking of swapping out my 12909 for the XR1 as long as it doesn't drone real bad. I really wish I could get my truck to sound like my wife's scat pack with muffler delete and Dyno max bullets put in it's place.

Full disagree. You spent way too much on CAI, cat back, and catch can if you're getting near blower prices. The tune is needed either way so you cannot put that in there. The exhaust is needed either way, don't have to but it's silly to cram a ton more air into the motor and not give it a way out. The only thing you spent money on you wouldn't with a blower is the CAI, so you only wasted about $300, well maybe you wasted more but either way it's a drop in the bucket compared to a $6k blower kit and in no way gets you close to a blower if you didn't buy it. And in some cases your gonna spend money on the induction side for the blower so really the CAI may also cancel out.
And man yours is loud because you bought a loud exhaust. I have headers, no cats, and 3.5" exhaust and mine is barely louder than stock. At idle it's as quiet as stock. They make different mufflers, if you want yours quiet put a muffler on it that quietens it down.
I have CAI, long tubes, 3.5" exhaust with a magnaflow and it cost about 1k. It's all really good stuff too.

I agree with 00pooterSS I have every think plus ported heads and cam. I'm still not close to 6,000 dollars.
roughly
500.00 for headers
150.00 muffler and install the 6.2 already has 3.5 pipes
lets say 2000 for cam install
400 for the heads. I had a local shop look them over while I had them off and did a port job and valve job.
250 for tune
60 for E85 sensor
100 for Airraid Jr tube and modded stock box
That's 3,460$ only half way there.
