Hey any secrets regarding launching in 4wd? Is there a certain way to get the most out of it? Can it hurt your 4wd system? If you launch should you switch it back into 2wd right after that or run it all the way down the track at 95 mph?

 

There is already like two threads almost titled this exact thing AND asking the exact same questions.

I always forget to take my truck out of 4x4 after I launch, been 110+ with out any problems

 

Pretty much just put it in 4 hi, brake stall it up, and pop your foot off the brake when you're ready to go. I always hit the 2wd button right after the launch but there's been some debate as to whether or not it actually disengages before you let off the gas, since there's load on all of the parts. Either way, I've never hurt anything. Lots of 4wd guys do it, and I've never read about anyone else hurting anything else either.

Ok, here is a question that may or may not have been addressed before. My truck has the auto four wheel drive feature. I usually leave it in auto because if I can't get traction when I am getting on it around town. Just wondering if there is any risk to using this feature when making 400whp. It that too much stress on the system?

Here is my option on that, but I have a lot more power then you. Around town when I'm playing, I use auto 4x4 since I'm turning and getting on the power while I'm moving.

But when I go to the track, I use strait 4x4 because I launch hard and in a strait line. With hard launches in auto 4x4, it start to spin the rear tires then bangs hard as the 4x4 kicks in. That seems really hard on things to me, so I just put it in strait 4x4.

 

I agree that at the track 4hi is the best bet. Around town you don't want to drive around in 4wd all the time so the auto is nice. Just seems like there would stress on the parts constantly switching for 2wd to 4wd.
