Default yet another cam question

i am in the market for a cam and i was looking at the tr 224 or something along that spec. what my question is, is that what is the biggest cam i can go for a DD i dont think i want to go much bigger than this. i was told that i would see more gains out of a smaller one such as a 218 220 since i have a crew cab. or was he just blowin

what gears are you gonna run? what stall? are you gonna race it? street race? just a fast DD?

i put a Circle D 3000-3200 in my truck over the weekend with servos..i like it but being with 3:42s its not a tight enough stall imo. if you want to run a 3000 or tighter id stay with a 216, a 218, or a 220 with a 113-115 lsa
find Truckshop's thread in the dyno section he has a 6.0 with some work an 4:10s he put down over 400rwhp..an he DDs his an takes it on long distance trips...
think about your goal with the truck an get with Richard at WCCH, or PatrickG i thinks his name and have them spec you a cam.

i have 3:73s with a servo and shift kit. im looking to put in about that size converter anywhere from 3000. I am just looking for some added power and a street rave here and there. those suggestion sound pretty good. thanks!

2800-3200 imo
218 or a 220 would work perfect for you an those gears. the 224 youd have to go lower an id think go with a bigger motor to get the true power of a 224 but everyone opinion is different. so happy modding an keep us updated of what you decide for the CC

since it's your daily, get a TB or a yank stall ...
if you're looking for bottom end power, then get a smaller cam
If you're doing nothing but roll racing and the "street scene" then get something bigger than the 224

Well I will be doing some street racing with the truck but mostly from a dig. So that gets me thinking about a smaller cam to get the tank moving off the line. the top end I have now I like but I always would love more. The thing I need to improve on is the bottom end which is why i put some LT's on it but now i think if i put a cam/stall with it i think i will be well on my way...thanks for the info. btw tootall what would a good low-midrange cam call for? i know you installed a cam in Mikes(blackedout06) truck and i love the way that truck runs!!! it pulls on single cabs! would a cam like that be ideal or something different?

LTs do nothing for bottom end . . . they're more for upper mid to up top.

get the same cam that Mike has or the one that stock48 is selling.

i had a 224 -228 in my truck but i had a converter.. a 224 would be pushing it on stock converter.

a 220 would do well

I'm going to run a 228R with a 3600 Yank in my 5.3.

One thing to remember, the DOD lifters really don't like cams. You'll probably want to replace them with LS7 or the new caddy lifters.

new caddi lifters are 250-300 an the LS7s are only 122. its all in what you wanna spend.
to change lifters you have to pull the heads. i have a set of head bolts if you want them pm me. they are brand new still in the box.
i have a TB stall too pm if you want it. its also brand new but not in the box bc the UPS man left it on the ground an it got damp.

you need:
lifters (16) 125.00
lifter trays(4) 45.00
head gaskets(2) 60.00
head bolts 60.00
LS2 valley cover 150.00 or find one used
cam kit 50.00
7.4" hardened push rods 135.00
upgraded valve springs 255.00-275.00
