I'm runnning a CC/SB Z71 w/ 3.42 gears and 295/70R17 tires (weight on the scales is 6,250 w/ 1/2 a tank and me in it). Stock it took away some power but not enough to worry me. I'm now running a custom tune on 89 octane without issues. G-Teched it shows the same 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile times as before once the tune was added. I've pulled 12K lbs with it. No power problems starting out or staying at 70 MPH (this is FL so it's fairly level), it was no powerstroke, cummins or duramax but good for a gasser. If I had 3.73s I wouldn't even think about changing gears. If I were running 35s i'd think 4.10s maybe 4.30s. This truck sees 4x4 use almost once a week and can turn the tires over in 4 hi no problem even in the worst underfoot conditions. The money you spend on the gears I don't think will make that big of a difference. I've got 98K miles on it but it's probably close to 150K the way most people drive without any issues other then a c-clip bending and front diff leak due to mud getting into the seal. Stock trans (and cooler) stock g-80, stock suspension. If your truck is a dog off the line might be time to look for a new tune or a dyno tune (not sure if you have a can tune or custom). Also is the speedo and PCM reprogrammed for the 295s(or 33.5s)?
You have a 8.25" front diff and 8.8" rear. If I were going to do rear gears I'd look for a 9.5" rear end out of a 6.0 truck. I've got a lead on a 10K mile 9.5" rear end w/ a 1 year warranty for 650 bucks (it already has the G80 and 4.10s). The G80s in the 9.5s are a lot less likely to blow then the 8.8s.
Edit: not sure if me have a GMT 800 truck makes a difference, I though the torque curve of them new 5.3 was better then the old

Yea she has no probs in the mud. Just those tall tires to get moving a lil better off the line. i see your point. to a degree but doing alot of around town driving with lots of lights and bad traffic in houston it would be better to get it moving a lil easier from a stop with those tires.
