If it is a 2 pc DS out of a NBS it is steel as for all i have seen and the big POS one pc in our NNBS are aluminum ... Im not sure on the Club cab ones since ive only gotten under and looked at the Extra cabs when i was huntng for new DS after blowing mine to hell 
... Went ahead and got the 5" heavy duty aluminum one pc from DSS OF San Antonio ....no issues at high speed 100+ so for but im on stock rear end w/3:42s and only simple bolt ons n tune ... Future mods to come

cdub, you willing to do another one? I really need to do one...and OP, there is a pretty decent thread on CustomGM about it, couple guys there have it done.
