swapping from 4.3 to ls motor
#1
hey guys i'm looking at an 07 or 08 (not real sure the year) thats wrecked and i can get fair priced. i like everything about it other than it has a 4.3L motor and i was wondering how much trouble it would be to swap to say a 5.3L. i'm doing a blazer/lsx swap right now and was kinda wondering if it would be something like that or what. i want it as factory as i can get it.

it's easier than the lsx blazer swap, i can tell ya that. at least you can get all the fullsize parts from the factory.
i ain't got experience with the NNBS, but in my 99, it wasn't all that bad - just needed a complete long block, V8 accessories (minus alternator & p/s pump - they changed over), wiring harness, V8 clutch kit, V8 a/c lines, V8 motor & frame mounts, a little modding of the fuel lines & coolant hoses, and a tune.
i can't remember if the NNBS 4.3s are cable throttle, though... if so, you'll also have to change to a DBW gas pedal.

i'm really not sure either but i wanna say that they are dbc. my main question is with the harness and computer. will the 5.3 harness and computer just straight plug up on the v6 body harness.. any problem with guages?
also swapping to dbw, what would have to be don't for that other than just a pedal. like wireing wise.

i didn't have any problems with my gauges or anything (other than my tuner programming 4.10 gears when i have 3.73s). the NBS engine harness swapped over pretty easily.
swapping from DBC to DBW is a bit more complicated, though. i don't recall what all's gotta be done, but i remember seieng a write-up of some rewiring that has to be done. i aslo don't know if the NNBS V6 uses a different computer or not either... hopefully somebody who owns one can chime in.

why change to a DBW??? thats money spent for no reason imo.
if its 4.3 just grab a complete pull out id go 6.0 dude. ill never buy another 5.3 again. they have a 6.2L if your pocket runs deep grab it. but my pockets are shallower than a rain drop...so i gotta buy a 6.0 an upgrade later in life.
perfect thing to do is what Redheartbeat did. 4.8/60E truck pull it out for a bigger combo dude.
im dealing with the GEN IV block in an OBS right now..an i like the DBC set up imo.
pm me if you have any questions.

yeah my pockets are no where near deep enough for a 6.2l and the reason for a 5.3 is i may be able to get a complete one for about 4-500 other than harness and ecu. and as long as it would work with everything i woulnt mind staying with cable i just didn't know if it would still work or not.
another thing. would i have to use acomputer from a nnbs truck or would one work from a nbs if i decide to stay dbc
