Default Outside air temp sensor as IAT sensor.

I was just curious if anyone has converted their outside air temp sensor (the one mounted on the A-frame in the grill) into a IAT sensor. Couldn't I just cut and extended the wires and then install a sensor into my cold side piping? Then it would display on my dash?

I am confused on you using a completely different style sensor as an IAT sensor

Why not just install an iat sensor and use the wiring from your maf?

No, your idea will not work. GM uses dwell time on their AC and Mirror sensors. Simply put, if your intake temperature spikes or falls, the computer opts to adjust only 10% of the difference every 15 seconds. So if you go from 90* to 120*, it will take the mirror some 4 minutes to display the change.

If youre looking for a iat guage for your dash, in theory you could but it would still be off from what the ecm is seeing.... And if you wanna use it to tell the computer what the outside ambient temp is as iat then it will throw everything off the computer needs to see temp of the air going into the engine, and as previously stated they are different types of sensors,....id say get one from an impala or malibu or even old truck that has separate iat if thats what you wanna use for a guage and want ut to read accurately!!!!
